About Downaro

Last updated: 21 September 2026

Downaro is an independent web product for saving public social videos and photos that you already have the right to keep. The site is built to be fast on a phone, quiet on the page, and honest when a platform does not expose a file. It is not a second YouTube, and it is not an official tool from any of the platforms we name.

What Downaro is

You paste a public URL. Our server checks that the host is one we allow, then looks for media that page already advertises to a logged-out visitor. When a file is there, we show it. When the platform only shows a login wall, a stub, or a preview, we say so.

That is a narrower job than most “online video downloader” pages advertise. We do not keep a public library. We do not let you browse other people’s Reels. We do not ask you to install an unofficial app. The product lives at downaro.com and works in the browser you already have.

A listed MP4 or JPEG is a technical result: the platform advertised a public file. It is not a licence. If the clip is not yours and nobody gave you permission to keep it, do not paste the link. The terms say that in longer form.

Why it exists

Most results for “save this video” are slow, noisy, and vague about what they will not do. They ask for a login they should never have. They show five buttons that look like Download and one that actually is. They fail silently when Instagram or TikTok only returns a preview.

Downaro was built the other way around. The paste field sits at the top, including on a small phone. The article comes after, for people who want to know why a short vt.tiktok.com link works and a private Story does not. When we cannot return a file, we say so with a reason, not a fake quality list.

The audience we have in mind is ordinary: a creator who wants a copy of their own public post, a team saving an asset they already cleared, someone moving a public clip they were told they could keep offline. If you arrived because a friend sent a “free MP4 of that song,” this is the wrong site, and we would rather you leave than pretend otherwise.

What happens when you paste a link

You copy a public address from the official app or website — Share → Copy link, or the address bar. You paste it here. We check the protocol and the host. We refuse private networks, malformed URLs, and hosts we do not support. Then we look at what that public page already exposes.

Nothing is downloaded until you choose a file. A successful lookup is not an automatic grab. On iPhone, Safari often drops the file in Files, not Photos. That is a browser habit, not a hidden extra product. The iPhone guide finishes that last step if the camera roll is empty.

Reddit sometimes stores picture and sound as two files. If a clip arrives silent, that is usually their layout, not a broken button. The Reddit sound guide explains it.

Platforms we cover

Each tool page has its own instructions because the messy URL is different on each host. The homepage accepts any of these public hosts. The pages themselves teach the shape of the link, not a swapped keyword.

  • Instagram — public Reels and video posts.
  • TikTok — public videos and photo posts, including short vm and vt links from the share sheet.
  • Facebook — public videos, Reels, and photos.
  • X — public videos and photos.
  • Pinterest — public videos and images.
  • Reddit — public videos, plus the sound split when Reddit publishes one.
  • YouTube — public videos and Shorts, when a file is actually available to return.

Those names belong to their owners. We use them so you can tell one tool from another. We are not Meta, TikTok, X Corp., Pinterest, Reddit, Google, or Apple.

What we will do

  • Accept a public link on a supported host and look for media that page already advertises.
  • Refuse private networks, login walls, and malformed URLs instead of guessing.
  • Keep the tool above the long article so you can work immediately.
  • Keep the pages light: no icon fonts, no extra image requests for platform marks, no ads dressed as download buttons.
  • Publish a real contact path and a real copyright notice process.
  • Say when a video cannot be saved, and why, instead of inventing qualities.

What we will not do

  • Ask for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, Pinterest, Reddit, or YouTube passwords, session cookies, or two-factor codes.
  • Bypass DRM, paywalls, or authentication.
  • Pretend to be those companies, or wrap our pages so they look official.
  • Show advertisements that look like download buttons.
  • Host a public gallery of other people’s clips.
  • Promise that every link that plays in an app will produce a file here. Apps stay signed in. We only read what a logged-out request can see.

If a page that looks like Downaro asks for a platform password, it is not us. Close it.

Speed, phones, and the page

The product is HTML first. The tool is the first thing you can reach with a thumb. Arabic and French pages are written as those languages, not a thin “same as English” note. Platform colours on each tool page are CSS tokens, not a heavy theme pack.

We care about this because a helper that takes eight seconds to become usable is useless on a bus. A legal page that is two sentences long is also useless when you actually need to send a notice. Long text on About, Terms, and Copyright is still just text. It does not load a video player or a third-party widget.

The name and the mark

The name and the rounded “D” are the brand. The indigo-to-violet icon in the header is the same artwork used for app icons and social previews. Third-party marks on the platform cards are identification only. Do not scrape the site and ship it under another name as an “official saver.”

Who is behind it

Downaro is operated as a small product on downaro.com. There is no member database and no storefront. Product questions go to hello@downaro.com or the contact form. Rights-holder notices belong on the copyright page so they do not sit in the ordinary inbox unmarked.

How we handle pasted URLs, logs, and mail is on the privacy page. How you may use the tool is on the terms. We are not your lawyer, and we are not a support desk for Instagram’s own bugs.

Start on the homepage if you already have a public link. Open a platform page if you want the instructions for that host. If a download vanished after you tapped it on iPhone, use the Photos guide. If a Reddit file has no sound, use the Reddit guide.

If none of that is what you needed, write. A specific URL and what you expected beats a one-line “it doesn’t work.”

Questions people actually ask

Is Downaro a video hosting site?

No. There is no public library or browse page. You paste a public link. If the platform already advertised a file to a logged-out visitor, we point you at it.

Are you affiliated with Instagram or TikTok?

No. Downaro is independent. Platform names and logos on the tool cards are for identification only.

Do I need an account?

No. The site runs in the browser. We will never ask for an Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, or X password.

Who is the product for?

People who already have a right to keep a public clip: creators backing up their own posts, teams saving cleared assets, and anyone storing a public file they were told they could keep offline.

Where do I send a rights notice?

Use the copyright page. Product questions that are not a formal notice go to Contact.
