How to move a browser download into Photos on iPhone

On iPhone, “download” rarely means “it is already in the camera roll.” Safari usually drops the MP4 in the Files app. This is normal. The steps below finish the job after you used Downaro or any other browser download.

Before you start

  • Use Safari if you can. It talks to Files most predictably.
  • You already tapped a real download — not a preview that only played in the page.
  • You are allowed to keep the file.

1. Find the file in Files

  1. Open the Files app.
  2. Go to On My iPhone → Downloads, or iCloud Drive → Downloads if Safari is set to iCloud.
  3. Look for a recent .mp4 (or similar) file.

You can change Safari’s download folder in Settings → Safari → Downloads.

2. Save it to Photos

  1. Tap the file so it previews, or touch and hold it.
  2. Tap the share icon.
  3. Choose Save Video.

If Save Video is missing, the file is incomplete or not a format Photos accepts. Download again and wait until the transfer finishes before opening it.

If Safari played the video instead

Touch and hold the playing video and look for Download Linked File or use the download icon in Safari’s toolbar. Then repeat the Files → Photos steps.

Android, briefly

Chrome usually places the file in Downloads / Gallery on its own. You do not need the Files detour.
